Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Feb 9-17 2011

New York City, the fashion captial of the world is once again under the spell of designers, models and fashionistas.

Back at Lincoln Center some 60 + shows will be shown in the tents and other shows will occur through out the city. This season Caren and I ran all over the place. The shows this year had a basic theme. Layering and more layering. Clothers were gray and black or black and brown. With splashes of green or red here and there.

There were a few designers who out did themselves. We have the pictures but I think the videos speak better.

Enjoy!

Congrats to Ron Smith for bring us an upscale very “personal Paris like” fashion show. Excellent wine, with fruit, fine meats and cheese hors’dovers. Oh yes, and chocolate, lots of chocolate!! Any designer who uses is chocolate as an idea to design clothes already won my heart Linda Rowe Thomas, also won over the hearts [...]

Muscovites Pix

The main thing about this show is the shoes! New Yorkers always look at you from the floor up. In this show, you must start from the shoes up because the really make the outfits. Flowing fun and different looks kept the audience interested. Oh yes, and the talk of the show? The shoes.

Perry Ellis Pix

Perry Ellis is one of those designers who show after show, year after year never disappoints you. He makes clothes for all types of Men. Classic lines and sometimes with a splash of color here and there to create a second look. This timeless designer is always a breath of fresh air with the Fashionistas. [...]

Leia Rose Pix

I personally would like to thank the family for allowing me to sit with them. I really enjoyed their company and seeing the talent of Leia Rose.

General Idea

Korean label General Idea proves that outdoors wear can be fashionable as well as functional in their F/W’11 show. The orange suit a bit too much color for you? Try the camouflage sweater. The collection manages to use the print and bright colors to bring a sense of fun to their menswear….C Kong

Best In Show In The Tents There are some shows people look forward to find red carpet dresses. This designer is one of them. When lights went down, a quick hush fell over the room. Then, pow! The lights blast on. The first outfit came out. Let the ahhh and ooohhh begin. The beauty of [...]

Nautica Pix

Nautica, found a home to show their line, just off site of the tents. Not too far away. Just around the corner within a very comfortable walking distance. Everyone talks about and looks forward to their show. Anticipating what colors would they have and what length would the outdoor pants be. I wasn’t disappointed. Neither [...]

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Feb 11-18, 2010

Every year we post pictures of fashion and the Fashionistas in this fun, creative world. Sometimes, there a show which have more eye popping, jaw dropping, outfits, than we can hopefully post. Now, with the video, you get to see what we see!

As of this date, Feb 13th,  I saw some dresses , oh boy did I see some dresses, I felt they would end up on the red carpet at the Oscars.  The designers are working on the backs of the dresses as wel as the front. Personally, I’m one for “just watch me walk away.”My problem is a need at least two rooms, of large size, to hold what I saw just in this short period of time.

Readers, this time I’m going to let you decide what YOU think is the Best Of  Mercedes Benz Fashion Week!

Fashion Week, Feb. 11-18 Quick Highlights

Mackage:  First show of fashion week, a collection filled with neutrals – camel, brown, navy and black.  Nice coats and jackets for men and women.  You will need to break out some heavy duty tights to keep warm while wearing those super short skirts though.

BCBG:  Darkest collection I can recall for BCBG – color wise.

Toni Maticevski:  A lot of glitter, beading and silky fabrics.  Draping galore.  Loved the shoes with the beading or metal chain detail at the back.

Ports 1961:  Futuristic fabrics meets classic shapes with an aviation twist.

Farah Angsana:  Classic, timeless evening and cocktail wear, perfect for days when a girl needs to play dress-up.  Jewel tones and flattering cuts.

Heart Truth:  Celebs prowl the runway in the name of the Red Dress organization which functions to spread the word about the serious issue of heart disease amongst women.  Celebs from Felicity Huffman(who paused mid-walk for a quick kiss from husband William H Macy)to Kim Kardashian made an appearance.

MikCire:  I believe this was the first show at the tents for MikCire, and the audience was filled with fashionably dressed boys to fete this occasion.  A lot of staples (leather jackets and cargo-esque pants) but all with enough interesting details to keep fashion seeking guys pleased.

Helen Yarmak:  Furs, furs and more furs – vibrantly colored fur (purple and orange) when you get bored of the basic black, brown and gray furs.

Miguel Antoinne:  A lot of focus on outerwear in dark colors with various trimming and zipper details, mostly in dark colors, also lots of leather used.

Christian Siriano: Supremely talented and of course yet another collection of beautiful evening/cocktail wear.  Wowed the crowd with his final look – a beautiful fuschia ball gown.  Also seen – big bows and incredible shoes with scroll design heels.

Charlotte Ronson:

Venexiana:

Lacoste:  Bright or monochromatic knits layered together.  If Lacoste has its say, it will be a neon fall/winter 2010.

Georges Chakra:

Twinkle:

Irina Shabayeva:

Arise:

Lela Rose:

Common Wealth Utilities:

Carlos Miele:

Tamara Pogosian:

Korto Momolu:

Perry Ellis:  Classic American sportswear with most of the looks coming in gray, black and navy.  Guests next to me discussed the wisdom of men wearing infinity scarves.  I say, why not.  Don’t men need warm easy to wear accessories?

Christian Cota:  He consistently puts out impressive collections, and the collection this season garnered a visit from Anna Wintour herself.  Dresses with metallic sparkle and abstract prints are sure to come in handy for fall/winter.

Emu:  As if Uggs didn’t have enough competition already, Emu (also Australian) has invaded the U.S. to give converts to the fashionably comfortable camp an additional choice.  They offer an entire line of casual and outerwear along with their line of shoes.

Malan Breton:

Project Runway Pixs

Don’t worry, we won’t give away who won the show.  But, we can tell you taping the final show, they had 10, yes people, 10 designers present their collections during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.  We will show you who the 10 are, but we will leave how their clothes look to your imagination.

Ok.. Ok… How many shows did we go to? I forgot. But we did a lot of walking! Most of the show were outside of the tents. Boy did I get fit!
Who has time to Twitter? I certainly didn’t. So much to see and cover.
First and foremost I would like to thank the HauteLook lounge for their hospitality. They had Sony Style VAIO laptops for us to use. So we could keep up with our e-mails. They gave us continental breakfast and lunch which was served daily. Mix cocktails after 4 and daily giveaways. They also had Alvin Valley come in and show his men’s clothing line. We had a wonderful time and are looking forward seeing them again.
I also would like to thank Factory PR, for inviting us to a taping of the Marc Bouwer and Lydia Hearst “runway show” during which all the elements present at your typical Fashion Week runway show did take place – backstage commotion, hair and make-up, light and sound testing and designer interviews.  It was a pleasure meeting both of them.
Also The Daily Suite took excellent care of us. I got a manicure from the best, Myrdith Leon- McCormack. She did work for Elle, Bazaar, to name a few. Right now as we speak, she is in London for their fashion week. We ate and had cocktails in the suite. We got to see my favorite, Bag Trends!!!!!
Then there is Bj Coleman shows! The Coleman Entertainment Group is now working with Nolcha & Nolcha Fashion Week. This is their third year, Nolcha Fashion Week took place simultaneously with New York Fashion week.

It was held at the iconic Bohemian National Hall in association with Czech Republic Consulate General.  Inside, runway shows, accessory exhibits, cocktail parties and fashion business seminars to showed  American and international  fashion designers. The clothing was fierce! I made sure of the four designers I saw, I posted their clothing.

   How was your week?

UPDATE: Attention!

We have been told by the promoter, that show has been cancled. We can only speculate with the falling Wall Street and other issues. But if any changes happen rest assure you will be notified right here!

I cannot wait for fashion week to start. Prince William Botz picked me up to wear his clothes! He is from France and will be presenting his line overseas as well as in the tents around September!
That’s me with him the last day of fashion week. I was sooooooooooooo sick at that point, I had to go home early.
I’m also looking forward to attending Project Runway and seeing some of my old friends again. Many of thoses designers moved to California and I talk to them e-mail.
I also would like to thank my sponsors for helping me with traveling and lodging cost. Things to get costly! OOOWCH!!! When they took the picture of me with the Prince I had a 102 fever! I was so sick that day!

Sorry to get back to everyone so late, but I’ve been so busy!!! Malan pictures are already up. And as usual, his show is wonderful!!! I talked to Melrose, who was on ANTM. She did a great job for Malan.
I’m trying to get Betsey Johnson’s pix up. I love her shows and her clothes. We are working on the site so hang in there!

Finally it has arrived! And not too late, I was going into withdrawl…gasp!
Caren and I have been hitting the shows left and right. Adena and new friend, Elaine in tow..
Elaine and I had to split up and go into shows we all couldn’t attend. They are all over the city and many of them are downtown. We hung out at the Met Life area in the tent.
Elaine went to the Kate Spade showroom. Very cute stuff.
Caren and I went to Lascost show. I found the clothes wearable and fun.
Things are still happening as I write so check back soo. I’ll stll be adding…
Bye…

February Fashion Week

Fall/Winter’08

If things go according to what we’ve been seeing on the runway, fashion devotees will be stocking up on a whole lot of plaid, belts and purple clothing when fall makes its way around again.  Those three trends were extremely prevalent during fashion week, making their appearance at practically every show.  Menswear got into the act as well, mainly by sending enough plaid down the runway to give attendees vertigo.  All those criss-crossing stripes moving around can be a dizzying experience for observers.  Read on to see how your favorite designer approached the fashions of fall/winter 2008.

Scotland:  A nation with a long history of wearing plaid fashions; no wonder designers were looking to them for inspiration.  Akiko Ogawa channeled the country’s traditional plaid patterns, a bit of military design, as well as a cool rock and roll sensibility for a visually stunning collection.  Grantedly, this is not clothing for the faint of heart.   You will not see the “ladies who lunch” sporting this for their charity galas.  What the collection is: downtown, edgy and chic.  She combines all these elements without taking things too far and making her clothing unwearable.  A truly fascinating amalgamation Scottish history with modern design.  Ports 1961also named Scotland as an inspiration for their collection, but they did it in a less “in your face” way.  While there were a few plaid outfits, the Scottish influence could be seen more in the knitted details of some of the pieces and the knitted accessories that accompanied many of the looks.  It was a pretty and feminine collection that also featured many nature-inspired print dresses.  Ports 1961 capped off their Scottish theme with a parting gift for their guests.  A knitted traditional Scottish good luck charm that can be worn around the waist or perhaps even as a necklace.  Judging by the baffled looks on the show-goers faces, this particular piece of information did not make its way around the tent.  In all honesty, this writer too was in the dark as to what we had been given.  Luckily, designer Loris Diran was in the audience and was able to clue us in.

Diane Von Furstenberg:  The queen of wrap dresses presented a vast array of (yes, you guessed it) dresses in a variety of prints.  Along with that, she also showed you ways to accessorize or change the look of the DVF dress; which is useful, since practically every woman has at least one of Von Furstenberg’s dresses in her closet.  It was belts galore at this fashion show.  Girls were outfitted in dresses with belts or dresses with either jackets, cardigans or sleeveless long knit sweaters and then belted on top.  So remember to make a note of this when shopping, this season’s dresses + layers, definitely = a belt.

Douglas Hannant:  Here is a designer that is often a bit too conservative and mature for my taste, so this collection was pleasantly surprising.  By no means was it risky or avante guarde, but dress after dress seemed that it would be just as flattering on a young woman as it would be on her mother.  That is a difficult line to straddle.  Overall the collection felt more youthful than previous ones seen from Hannant.  He sent out a large spectrum of dresses ranging from cocktail frocks to red-carpet ready gowns in practically every jewel tone imaginable.

Lacoste:  The brand and its designer brought the classic preppy look to life on a white faux fur accessorized runway.  The front row was also treated to fur covered seating.  Something that did catch my eye was some of the monochromatic looks (mostly grays and other neutrals) that featured sweaters draped over jackets on top of long sleeved shirts or turtlenecks.  Perhaps this is interesting to me because Lacoste is a brand known for lots of color.  Another amusing moment occurred when the school girl outfit came down the runway.  It looked almost exactly like the uniform I used to wear for school.  This could be an effort on Lacoste’s part to promote a new division in their brand: private school uniforms.

Nautica: Once again Nautica was responsible for kicking-off fashion week.  All the looks that came down the runway fit perfectly with what one would imagine that the Nautica man would look like and dress.  He is sporty, rugged, all-american, stylish but not too trendy and good-looking but not too pretty.

Peter Som:  He always presents a good collection.  The two things that stand out in my mind about this particular one is rouching and asymmetry.  Proper fit after a dress or blouse has been rouched or pleated is difficult, but Peter Som rises to the challenge.  The asymmetrical necklines of some of the dresses are also very eye-catching.

Malan Breton:  Malan, of Project Runway, fame makes his debut in the tents with this collection.  Having shown for several seasons already, the designer is constantly striving to prove that it is not just reality tv exposure that has gotten him this far.  This time he sticks to simple, traditional and elegant silhouettes and cuts.  Prints and colors are kept to a minimum with many of the outfits consisting of a two color combo at most.  The collection seems very Audrey Hepburn with its simple cuts, gloves and little black dresses.

Vivienne Tam:  Vivienne Tam is a designer famous for constantly displaying her Chinese heritage in her clothing line.  Being proud of and feeling connected to your culture is a wonderful thing, but it has both helped and hurt her in the design business.  This connection to her roots has made her practically a household name back in Asia, but it can be a tad prohibitive when catering to a Western market.  We have witnessed Tam try to find a balance between her heritage and creating something that is ready to wear for all cultures these past few seasons.  She has steadily been moving away from where the theme of Chinese culture echoes loudly on every thing she touched to it beeing a subtle influence or interpretation in the collection.  It should also be noted that Tam too couldn’t resist sending out some purple and plaid.  She kept many of the silhouettes very simple and instead used stiching, cut-outs or layering patterns to create depth and interest.  She has included some very intricate floral and zen inspired patterns onto her clothing.  Here is a collection of dresses and looks that anyone would feel comfortable wearing to dance the night away in a trendy club.

Zang Toi:  Zang Toi never fails to deliver a visual experience with his shows.  He is a designer that knows his clients well and knows exactly what they want to wear.  This time he has his socialite clients jetting off to a ski chalet, and he has their outfits planned for every occasion: on the slopes, relaxing by the fire, dinner with friends and even formal parties.  He was even thoughtful enough to throw in some ensembles for their male counterparts should any of these couples have a Beckham-ish fervor for his and hers matching outfits—Caren Kong.
